                    The Role of Media in Present Day World

                              Today we live in an ICE age- an age of Information, Communication and Entertainment. Media play a key role in our  lives. Most of us begin our day with a cup of tea and a newspaper. It is well known fact that we can hardly pass a day without the support of media. In a democracy, like ours media function as the watch dogs of democracy. In our personal lives also, media are essential. They, whether the print media or the electronic media update us with the changing world. We are informed about the latest trends in lifestyle., fashion and entertainment. Media help a lot  in the education sector. Media let us know about the opportunities in the career sector. They have a great role in disaster management. They also give live telecast which can even bring out hidden stories of corruption in the public sector.
                             
                               Even when these are the advantages of media, media have many drawbacks . In certain cases media take a biased approach. The also  in certain instances sensationalize   news items just to increase the readership. When media glorify crime, violence, and sexual abuse, the youngsters might have the chances of getting wrong influences. Plenty of instances are in our own society for the wrong influence of media upon youngsters. The recent increase in the rate of child criminals justify this. Advertisements decide and design our lifestyle. They sent magic bullets to our taste and design to our lifestyle. Media promote consumerism in our society and thereby debt trap.

                                But in this era of global village concept we cannot live without media. What we want is a wise approach in dealing with media.

Life is like a mix of both success and failure. Both are necessary. But we should be desperate when we fail. We should recover with more energy. We can give our life in the hands of two people. 1. What a Friend we Have in Jesus       Most of us often blame God and stops praying if things do not happen as we wish. But have you ever felt that God is not far away from you and He has prepared something better in our life? “We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28) If you can praise the good Lord in the midst of your difficulties, it is the true love. Let me share with you an anecdote about finding the will of God in our difficulties. Last year, I was attending Salesian vocation camp for 2 weeks in Don Bosco Mannuthy, Thrissur.
